In short: many people in the Netherlands are ready for a new way of living. A way in which you both contribute to a better world and are closer to nature and spend less money than with a traditionally built house. Where can we find such a way of life and living? How about a wooden house? You can read more about it in this article.
Wooden house is better for the environment and the world
One of the reasons why a wooden house fits very well in today's society is because we are increasingly concerned with sustainability. In fact, research by MilieuCentraal shows that, since the corona crisis, 1 in 3 Dutch people want to live more sustainably in order to do something for a better world. If you also want to contribute to that, then choosing a wooden house is a smart move.
This is mainly down to the construction of the log house and everything that comes with it. The base of such a home, for instance, is often made of sustainable and fully recyclable wood with an FSC label. This means that attention is paid to new tree planting and continued growth, which in turn is better for CO2 absorption. Anyway, building wooden houses releases less CO2, which is better for the environment.
Living cheaply in a sustainable timber house
Whereas living sustainably normally means paying more money (think about buying organic food or installing solar panels), this is not the case when building a log house. In fact, wooden houses are cheaper than traditional brick houses. In most cases, this is due to the fact that fewer man-hours are needed in construction.
When building a stone house, you often need more people and more hours. Thereby, you don't need to have a heavy foundation built with a timber house. This is because a wooden house is much lighter than a stone one. As a result, the foundation costs are also a lot lower and you are cheaper overall if you go for a log house.
Wooden house is better for home insulation
What you might not have expected with a wooden house is that such a house is better for insulation than a stone house. This is because, quite simply put, wood is the very best material you can find in nature.
Of course, you still have to make sure that your wooden house is properly insulated, but you can hire a professional for that. The fact that it can at least be simpler is already a nice idea.
A well-insulated house has a direct impact on your energy bill, because you don't have to heat as much to keep the rooms in your house warm. After all, the heat stays better and longer, which is extra nice now that energy tariffs have risen so much.
Good insulation also makes for a better and healthier living environment. In fact, it is a lot healthier, as there is less chance of mould and damp and the oxygen level in the house is well refreshed (if you ventilate sufficiently).
Back to nature in your own log home
Finally, a wooden house is the way to go back to nature, even when you have such a house built in a bigger city. Because the house you then live in is made of a strong natural product, namely wood, you immediately feel closer to nature. A large proportion of the people who live in such a house immediately don't want anything else; that says it all.
What is also nice to know is that a wooden house contributes to your health. This is not only because you can better insulate your home, but also because wood itself ensures a stable living environment and a healthy climate in which to live.
Several studies have been done that conclude this, including research by the Finnish building research institute VTT in collaboration with the German Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics and the Helsinki University of Technology. In short: plenty of reasons to choose a wooden house too.
